Eco-Tour of Destin Area

Explore Northwest Florida’s powder-white sand coastline

Without a doubt, Northwest Florida is home to some of the most beautiful waters and beach/dune systems in the world.  Visitors from far and wide come to experience these natural wonders, but few have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of what they are seeing and what makes it unique.  If  you’re looking for something unique to do, take a personalized tour and visit some of the most pristine areas along the northwest Florida coast.

What you can expect to see

eco-tours in Destin Hamburger Sea Bean

Your experience will begin with a brief orientation and an overview of where you will be walking and what you can expect to see on the walk.  We will then proceed to the beach where we will witness the forces–wind and water (waves, tides, currents) –that are constantly at work moving and reshaping the beach.  The organisms that live here must be well adapted to these harsh conditions.  We’ll then walk inland and explore the dune system (primary, secondary, and tertiary dunes, and their respective flora and fauna that are distinct to each area) leading to the maritime forest.  The plants and animals discussed will change as we move inland.

What you can expect to get out of it.

The level of exercise is a casual walk along the beaches and boardwalks across the dunes.  As you walk, Dr. Rainey will describe the environment you are seeing, and discuss the plants and animals that make it their home.  The tours are personalized to your group, so feel free to ask questions and interact with the host.

You may wish to bring along binoculars and a camera, as you are certain to have numerous opportunities for memorable shots!  You may even find shells or other natural objects you wish to take home.  All educational materials and collecting gear will be provided by the host.  Please wear comfortable clothing and bring any snacks and water you will need.
